In its original language, SAP = Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung or Systems, Applications and Products in dataprocessing. SAP ERP has many versions released. The major change was from R2 (mainframe) to R3 (3-tier architecture, database-application-client) in 1992. As new concept of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) emerged, SAP ERP landscape moved to web services based business activities with its SAP Netweaver platform technology which accomodate non-SAP solutions.
